Rather than making up excuses not to travel by waiting around for someone to join you, book that trip and go solo. Like me, many men will find solo travel to be enjoyable and a wonderful experience. Being able to do what you like when you like. When it comes to solo travel, you can choose whether you want to sleep in, fill your day with activities or explore a beautiful city.

The Best Destinations for Solo Travel

Solo travel can be daunting, especially if it’s your first time. Things like budget, safety, and the types of activities are all important things to consider when planning your trip.

I’ve put together a list for solo travelers to help make it easier for you !

Iceland

If there’s one country perfect for solo travelers – it’s Iceland. The small Nordic island nation is one of the safest countries in the world, it’s easy to get around and is full of incredible landscapes !

Spend your trip diving between the frozen fissures, watching the Northern Lights, chasing waterfalls or relaxing in the world-famous Blue Lagoon.

Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia is a favorite with backpackers, making the region a good start for solo travelers on a budget. With cheap flights between the countries as well as public buses and trains, you can easily get from one destination to the next.

The most popular backpacking route is the countries of Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, but you can easily adapt your itinerary to suit your interests. Whether you’re looking to explore the ruins of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, party it up at the famous Full Moon Party in Thailand, or trek through the paddies of Sapa in Vietnam, there’s something for everyone.

Tokyo

Want to travel to a destination that’s completely different to back home ? Book a flight to Tokyo !

With its fascinating Japanese culture, a trip to the Land of the Rising Sun is a must ! Tokyo is generally a safe city to explore for solo travelers, and you can get pretty much everywhere with the city’s train system. Spend your trip eating your way through the delicious selection of restaurants, or exploring the famous Harajuku district. There’s also plenty of day trips you can take to destinations like Kyoto !

New Zealand

New Zealand is one of the best solo travel destinations. The country has excellent infrastructure, it’s safe and the perfect choice if you love those outdoors and adventure sports.

The North Island is famous for its beautiful beaches and snowcapped volcanos. The South Island is renowned for its glaciers, and wildlife. If you’re looking to meet other travelers, join an adventure tour or stay in one of the many hostels.

Europe

If it’s your first time going on a solo travel trip abroad, visiting Europe is a great place to start. There’s so much to see !

Backpack your way through England, Italy, France, Spain and Germany or visit luxury destinations like Switzerland, Austria, Sweden and Belgium.

No matter where you decide to go, there are usually cheap flights around the different countries with budget airlines like Ryanair or Easyjet.

Canada

Canada has a low crime rate, it’s easy to navigate, and you can experience a bunch of different cultures all at once.

There are tons of hiking trails and other outdoor activities for adventure junkies at the various national parks.

Make your way to the East coast and stop by Montreal, placed on an island in the Saint Lawrence River, its narrow streets are lined with bontiques and bistros, and you can soak up the city;s French heritage. For something completely different, visit the city of Vancouver, the bustling seaport is home to a art, music and theater scene.

South Africa

South Africa has a bad reputation for its high levels of crime. But if you practice common safety tips, like not flashing your valuables or walking alone at night, it’s an easy destination to explore as a solo traveler.

Out of all the big cities in the country, Cape Town has the best and safest public transport system with stops at all the major tourist attractions. There are also backpacking buses that take you from one hostel to another. It’s a safe way to move around the country and meet other travelers at the same time !

No matter where you decide to visit, traveling solo is one of the best ways to see the world. You get to craft your itinerary and create the vacation of your dreams !
